Low profile design panel type - designed 02/02/02

This is yet another of my original designs with the aim of further reducing the vertical height of the device without reducing the maximum thrust or maximum voltage level. This was achieved by fixing each corona wire above but in between each foil, instead of directly above it.

New low profile high efficiency design, flying with a load of 19g (4 nuts on its corners). Weighs 18g, since I used thick balsa for this. Dimensions are 40cm each foil, 3cm foil depth, 3.5cm air gap, 9cm foil to foil and wire to wire.

Low profile design close up. Note that wire is fixed in between the foils NOT vertically above them. This reduces the thrust acting on the foil upper surface and enables a smaller air gap to be used at the same voltage. Note upper balsa cross members act only as oscillation dampers for the corona wire. This EHD thruster has been successfully used in my Remote controlled EHD flying machine.

Difference between standard thruster cell and my low profile panel EHD thruster cell

As shown in the EHD thruster performance table, the low profile panel thruster performs 257% better than the standard TdT lifter cell. You may view further e-field plots for this thruster in Experiment 2.
